I don’t think using a Child theme would restrict you from being able to edit the files.
That is what the Editor allows you to do.
Here is how you can debug the issue.
Disable all plugins and re-enable them until you see the problem.
Then you will have identified the problem.
You can also disabled the Child theme and just use Novapress.
