Updating Serenity Pro theme

Hi
I’m a newbie to WP
I have made changes to the serenity pro theme and customized it to the text and images I need. I want to upgrade to the latest update but not sure if I will lose my customizations.
will I lose my customizations if I install the new update?
I have read that using a child theme is better when making changes, I don’t have one yet, will I lose my customizations in the parent theme if I install the child theme?
I haven’t made any direct code changes in parent theme.
Hello,
You only need a child theme if you plan in making changes to the code in the theme files.
Also, updating will not effect any changes you’ve made, unless, as I mentioned above, you changed some of the theme files.
So it sounds like you’re ok to update.
Thanks for the info
if I want to install a child theme can I do it with affecting any of the non-code customizations I have made?
if I install a child theme do I need to keep updating that too or will it update with the parent updates?
thanks again
Hello,
The short answer is yes. Your child theme will inherit the parent themes non-code customizations.
You only need to update the parent theme.
I have updated to the new version of the serenity theme (VERSION 1.1.9.1) BUT the customizer UI (live editor) is not working, I can only see the widgets section but can’t do anything from there.
can you assist?
Hello,
Hmm that is strange.
1. Try clearning your browser cookies and cache and log back into your admin dashboard.
2. Disable all the plugins except those required by them theme, if the problem goes away you will know one of those plugins is the culprit.
Still nothing, I have tried different browsers using your recommendations. still same issue
Can you share a screenshot of the Customizer screen so I can see?
Hello,
We’ve tested all our themes with WordPress 5.5 so something else must be going on.
Can you provide me with admin access so I can log in?
You did try disabling all the plugins besides those required by the theme, correct?
Sure, I can provide admin access.
Can you provide an email address to send details to?
you can drop me a line on email and I will respond with credentials
Thanks
Hello Frank,
We have found the issue and will release an update tomorrow which will fix the issue.
I will notify you once it’s released.
